Hi Jean
Thanks for all the useful information.I hope I'll be able to find something new.On the 13th we're going to drive down to Charleston and Savannah, and on the way we're stopping in Raleigh.I'm hoping I can get to the State Library there.I feel like we've drained the state of most of their Copple info, but you never know. Some of the allied lines have been elusive.
I'm still wondering if one of Hans Peter Koppel's other sons may have been our ancestor - we know it's not Michael who m. Ms. Benzin. He also had a Johann Jacob, b. 1710; the other names don't fit if they followed the naming patterns.Another son, Johann Henrich is untraced, but the rest of them died in Alsace. Also, I don't know how common the Koppel name is; or what our original name was.It seems to get murkier, doesn't it?
If you have any specific info you want me to look for in Raleigh, let me know.I'll do my best.
