Hi Penny, Yes, I think the Schwartzwald info came first from Oscar. I haven't found his source as yet...wish I could! I think that he was referring to the NC Nicholas with that info...problem arose when the two Nicholases become intertwined so that I think his narrative in the beginning of his book combines info about both men He does mention Copple land in Germany that was disposed of in the fairly recent past...his father reportedly had been contacted about it, so I assume they were quite sure of the location.
While we're at the name variations, I have a real curiosity about the Cobbles in Randolph Co. NC...haven't found a connection there, but there are fairly clear pictures of that family group there in the 1700-1800's. Maybe these are the Cobbles you mention.
At least one of our researchers has been working on Daniel from Adams Co, Oh....I don't believe he has been placed as a child of either Nicholas as may be that the Daniel Kettle you mentioned is related to our Md. Nicholas....Oscar said that Micholas and Daniel were father and son...perhaps this was another Daniel??? The fact does remain though that there is no mention of a son Daniel in Nicholases will.
If anyone wants to check the DAR Patriot records for Jacob, s/o Nicholas of Md & NC, they should inquire under the spelling of request under Copple came back with a "no record" response alhough there is quite a nice file there which gives his name as Copple.
Thanks again for sharing all your good work, Penny. I'll check more records next week!
