Copley Custom?

When I was younger (quite a bit) I was looking through my grandmothers jewelry box with her one day and noticed a pair of tiny, tiny earrings. When I asked her about them she said that it was a custom handed down in her family that the parents have each child's ears pierced before the child is 24 hours old. In so doing the child is forever protected from curses. She had kept her earrings. Has anyone else heard of this custom in relation to the Copley line? Her line was back through Ira Goff and Milly Damron. Maybe it's a Damron tradition???
