Afternoon Richard Have you considered that a child may be born after one Census; and died before the next one? Also I think still-births were not recorded in that era. Another way is to note the sequence of the known births; and if there is a gap or gaps longer than usual, including immediately after marriage; and also around the "usual" pitch after the last-known birth. Patterns!! Also look for youngish deaths over a similar period. ============================= Then there are mis-spellings etc, however arising. Just this morning, I could not find a Louisa xyz. Fortunately her mother's very unusual first name produced the lead. LouSIa - and that was the way that it was written in the original Census document. All other records were the expected LouISa. So OFFICIALLY everything is correct - BUT should it be raised with FMP as a "Variant" spelling? Another some years back was Rita, Rieta and Reita, the last (if I remember correctly) not being recognised as a variant. And these are amongst the relatively easy ones!
