Rick,

I am descended from a James Copeland of Chatham County, North Carolina, whose wife, Elizabeth, was listed in his will along with many Copeland children and some Johnson children (treated as his own). My direct ancestor is Sylvania (Silvy) Copeland that married a Thomas Bryant. My James died in 1809 in Chatham County, NC, with his will written and dated in 1793.

Do you have any of the above Copeland family members in your files that would help me? I have seen that a James Copeland from Chatham County, NC, and son of Nicholas was raised by an uncle William, married a Lydia Dill and died in Alabama. If this statement is true, then according to so many postings that my James Copeland with wife Elizabeth could not be the son of Nichaolas Copeland and wife Nancy Ann Lott.

I congratulate you on your DNA studies. I am not familiar with the makeup of the DNA genealogy testings, but I have been told that a person must be male in order to become involved. Would you clear that up for me? I have two sons, and if male testing is what is needed, would we be to far removed from the male Copeland in our line to participate?

I would appreciate hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jennie O'Connor Magan
