I wrote you a message the other night. Sorry I didnt see your reference to Texas. My great-grandfather was Joseph Copeland b. 25Dec.1872 in Wayne county, Tennessee. He was one of six sons and 1 daughter of James Dougal Copeland who was the son of James Copeland and Catherine Gillis. James was born in South Carolina in 1791 and was the son of James Copeland who was the brother of William Copeland and Joseph Copeland(m. Sarah Seehorn). My great-grandfather Joseph married LouEtta Davis of Mississippi and they moved to Texas in 1898 and settled in the Hillsboro-Itasca area. Both my father and grandfather were born in Itasca. I was born and lived most of my life in the Dallas area, but I have spent the last 30 years in Arlington just outside of Fort Worth. I still get by the Itasca Cemetery where there many Copeland graves. There is one grave there that I can remember my great-grandfather saying was one of his distant cousins off of another Copeland line. I didnt think much about it--wish I had. The stone gives only her name, REBECCA COPELAND, and her date of death is in the late 1880s. I know nothing of her and cannot find her on any record or census. I do remember as a child that he told me had relatives in Ellis County, over in Fort Worth, and down in Waco, Texas. I have not been able to connect to these relatives who were here before he came into Texas before the turn of the century. These' relatives" have to be off of either the William or Joseph Copeland line. I am not familiar with these family lines at all. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated./ Michael.
