John, the Pioneer
Does anyone know of a "famous" pioneer John Copeland born mid 18th-century?By famous, I mean common knowledge to readers of the early 1900s.Here's my story:
I am trying to locate more information on John Copeland's niece, Esther Bowman (b. 09May1777) who married David Shearer (b. 06Jun1773).Their daughter Delphia was born in NC or TN, but all eventually moved to a farm outside of Vienna, IL.
I found an intriguing clue in a History of Johnson Co [IL], that Esther Bowman's mother was Mattie Dial, sister of "John Copeland, the pioneer."The book drops his name as if everyone would know the reference.Don't know what to make of that.Does anyone know of a Mattie Dial or Mattie Copeland sister to a John Copeland?
