Hi Karen,
I'm not sure if my Coote line is related to yours, but they're from Great Dunmow, which isn't that far from Wethersfield or Shalford. The names William, Charles, Thomas and James appear in each generation of my Coote line. I have traced my line back to a marriage in Great Dunmow in 1717. There is a marriage in Great Waltham in 1777 (and that's about as far from Great Dunmow as Shalford and Wethersfield are). There seem to be twin boys in every second generation of my Coote line. Any twins appearing in your Coote line? Do you know who the parents of William Coote are? My line also had some payment called West's Bounty that Cootes could claim if they reached the age of 60. Not sure on the finer details. Have you heard of anything similar with your Cootes?

Robyn
