I am searching for information regarding the Benjamin Cooper Family of Madison County, KY. He was in KY very, very early on. Probably came in about the same time as the Boone group. Maybe with them?????? (don't start any rumors, I'm only guessing) Have found his name in records in KY. His family settled in what became Madison County. His descendents moved on to the frontier...Missouri. They were there by about 1810 (I think). Very early at any rate. A county is named for them. I have seen pictures of some of his son's/grandsons. They have the appearance of American Indian. My ancestor was great friends with the Coopers. They were very close. We believe my grandfather's first wife and mother to my line, was Cherokee. They lived in Clark County (1795) and moved to Green then Cumberland County by 1799. Sometime during the first few years of 1800 my grandfather abruptly left Cumberland County, and came to Missouri. He eventually connected with the Coopers in Missouri and they were close for many years thereafter. I would like to find out if these Coopers were in fact Cherokee. This could explain quite a lot. Sorry to write so much but this has been going on for 35 years and I have just recently discovered that another line in our family was told the same story...that our ancestor was Indian. Coming from South Central KY I am assuming that she was Cherokee. Can anyone out there help with any suggestions? Thank you.
