The Fort Seybert Massacre booklet by the Roger Dyer Family Association may have been published after Oliver wrote his letter but that does not invalidate its veracity. The fact that Oliver's letter was a personal letter to his granddaughter gives it only minor credibility, at best, as a historical document, in my opinion. The Dyer Family Assoc. booklet, on the other hand, is extensively footnoted and appears to be well researched. In addition, most of the reference material was published before Oliver wrote his letter.
The Fort Seybert Massacre is a well documented event in history, to the point that to this day the event is renacted. Comparing the evidence presented in the Dyer booklet to the lack of evidence supporting Oliver's claim, with all due respect, I stand by my observation that it is highly unlikely that the young captive/escapee from Fort Seybert was Josephus Coonrod (as much as I wish it were true) and not James Dyer.
