Good evening,
I am familiar with Susanna Coonce, born 1-14-1789, and the family. Sussanna was the daughter (second child) of Jacob Coonse/Coonce of Hempfield twp, Westmoreland Co, PA who probably was born about 1760 there. His parents were Nicholas and Mary Coonse, and it appears that they were killed by Indians before 1780. Jacob and his brother, John, had left the home before the Indian raid in which their younger brother, Nicholas (born about 1769) was captured by the Indians and held prisoner for quite a while, until he escaped and joined Jacob and John in what is now St. Charles county, MO about 1791. Jacob had gone to KY, married and had John 1787, then Susanna 1789 and his wife apparently died about the time of her birth as he remarried Maria Bell (born 1777 in Westmoreland Co, PA.) in 1790. She died a couple of years later and Jacob moved to MO, along with most of his in-laws. He remarried again, and had several more children in St. Charles Co, MO (a short distance from the Zumwalt's. One of his children, another Jacob born 1806 is my gr.gr.grandfather (half-brother to Susanna and John.) The Indian captive, Nicholas, married Rebecca McConnell in 1798 and had a bunch of kids. Jacob's brother, John, married Elizabeth Shultz (or something similar, the Spanish and French were bad spellers.) John had some daughters and a sons before dying about 1804. As you know, Susanna married Andrew P.(?) Zumwalt who was a Methodist preacher and they eventually moved to Pike Co, IL where Andrew died. They had several children, and Susanna moved to OR to be with Cynthianna, a daughter. She died there at an old age. There is a picture of Susanna, somewhere, that Jax Zumwalt was kind enough to send me. Although it is a Xerox copy of a poor picture, she has a resemblance to many of the Coonce's in MO and was probably of heavy build in her later years. The album that I obtained a year ago contains photos of some of her brother, John's, descendants who were born in the 1860's and '70's in the area of Callaway Co, MO, Springfield, MO, etc. I will obtain your email address and send you more detailed info. Also, I will send info that I received from another of Susanna's descendants.
