Calling All Coons for the Third Time – Corrected Information

Me again. I told you I don't know much about DNA testing. Thanks to Raymond Coon's very diplomatic response to my second posting on this subject it has finally sunk in that there are TWO Coon DNA projects going on – one is the Ancestry.com one which I DID NOT submit my brother's DNA to – and the other one is the FamilyTreeDNA Coon Project one that I DID submit my brother's DNA to.

And while Raymond does not endorse either test as preferred, you have to know I certainly do. I'm hoping that you will all get the Family Tree one so that it can be compared to all 76 current participants, including my brother. I know it's a bit more expensive, but, as their website says, "90% Of Genealogists Choose Family Tree DNA" and that they began in April of 2000 (with the Coon Project started in 2003 per Raymond).

I've looked at the Ancestry website and can find only two "groups" that might be connected in any primary way:

• The "Kuhn" group has 1 member

• The Koontz Family of Davidson Co., NC, also has only 1 member

The Family Tree Coon Project has 76 members. As Raymond mentioned, "At a level of 76 members, the FamilyTreeDNA finds a match with about 50% of new tests right away. (no promises)."

So, please, go to Familytreedna.com and order a test kit. Your great-great-great-great grandchildren will thank you.

Regards,
Joan Coon
