Kristin and James: James and I have 'talked 'before as we both share Thomas and are struggling to learn more! I am interested in your post about the 1812 War. I think I have shared with you both some years ago, (but then maybe not!) some information that my Uncle Milford found in 1953. Milford did a lot of research back then and most of what he found has proven out. Here is part of what he wrote down July 9, 1953, in Derby, NY. (Thomas lived in Erie Co., NY)He is discussing where Thomas lived ..
"Have found where your great grandfather Thomas Coon lived. Drive north on southwestern Boulevard across the 18 mile creek bridge, turn right on North Creek Road and it is third house on the left.
Still do not know who John Coon was. Think he might have been brother of Thomas. On old North Evans Cemetery the lot used my Thomas Coon family was sold to John Coon for $2 63 and was 24 x 10 feet. John Coon bought of Holland Land Co. on June 5, 1838 62 1/2 acres which was about half way between North Evans and the lake. John also had lumber sawed at the Andrus sawmill in 1835-36. Also a Clark Coon worked in the saw-mill in 1835" .... it goes on about the mill.
I realize there are many Johns. This could have been a brother or father. I think it is possible that your Samuel and Thomas b.1787 are brothers. Thomas obviously had strong connections to Scriba, and the Prossers. The 1812 War connection .. cousins or brothers? If only there was way to solve all of this!! Jan
