I hate to sound like a broken record, but DNA testing can help determine whether or not there is a relationship between two males lines if there is a living direct male descendant (father to son - all the way down the line). There is a Coon family group at Family Tree DNA. At least three members list their earliest known ancestor as being from NY. There may be more.
