COON - Civil War - Ohio
Posted by: Leslie Lienert Date: June 30, 1998 at 00:45:16

I am looking for descendants of Samuel Coon (died May 1865) and William Coon (killed in action Sep 1863), men who served with the 36th OVI during the Civil War. Are you a descendant or know of someone else who is?

I am assisting my father in his writing a unit history of the 36th. We are looking for descendants of the men of the 36th in the hopes of finding personal papers written by them (i.e., diaries, journals, letters, or post-war reminiscences about their time with the unit) or artifacts they left behind
(photographs, etc.) in order to present a
fuller, more personal look at the unit as compared to the deadly dry unit histories written in the past. Additionally, he is interested to know if soldiers with the same or similar surnames were related.

Thanks in advance for your time and help. Sincerely, Leslie Lienert
