I can't help with this line, but wanted to point you in a possible direction for finding his ancestry. The Coomes name is prominent in Maryland records. In doing research on my other lines (Livers, Head, etc.), I discovered that many of the Catholics went from southern Maryland to Frederick Co., MD (Frederick and Emmitsburg areas) and some moved further north from there into Pennsylvania. (Mine went west to Kentucky.) Looking on a map, you'll see how close Frederick Co. is to Gettysburg. So, you might want to check records in Maryland to see if anything ties in.
