I'm a student at EKU and have been doing genealogy for 30 years. Jane Coomes, wife of William Coomes, who came to Kentucky in 1775 and settled first at Ft. Harrod (then Lincoln Co., now Mercer Co.) is my 6th-great-grandmother. For my Women in American History class, I want to write a paper on her life. I have several secondary documents (histories of Kentucky; family histories) that mention her, but am wondering if anyone can point me to some primary sources (court records, diaries, family bibles, etc.) that might help me in writing this paper. I'd prefer to use original sources whenever possible. Jane and William Coomes moved their family to Bardstown in the early 1780s to be with the other Catholics in Kentucky. I'm also interested in any records I might be able to find there. And if anyone can point me to any pre-Kentucky records on the family, please do! I'm especially interested in finding a copy of their marriage bond and/or license and to know whom her parents were. I've been told she might have been a Greenleaf, but have seen no primary source documents to prove such. I'll be happy to share the final product with anyone who might be interested. I plan to put it on a web page in April or as soon as I make the changes suggested by my professor. Thanks, in advance, for any help! Rita
