If you haven't been here yet, I urge everyone to check out the Combs &c site at http://www.combs-families.org. As you've probably seen in your research, Coomes and Combs are interchangeable spellings throughout the centuries of American research. This site has compiled a LOT of information on Coombs/Coomes/Combs from many counties, many of them transcribed from original records. They also have a discussion list, but it's too busy for me to keep up with.
