It seems that the wife of Fred COOMBS (who is a brother to Nathan COOMBS) sued for a divorce on the ground of extreme cruelty, and that Mr. PENDEGAST was her lawyer. Fred called at PENDEGAST’s office and asked to see his wife. The interview was granted and immediately after pistol shots were heard. An investigation was at once had, when it was discovered that Fred had fired at and shot his wife twice, once through each breast and then blew his own brains out. Fred COOMBS came to this country from Cape Cod, Mass., in 1852, and was about 40 years of age at the time of his death. He had a difficulty with a man named CLARK in 1865 or ‘66, whom he killed while sitting on a fence by stabbing him. About that time a bill was passed by the Legislature, allowing a wife to testify either for or against her husband, and his wife’s testimony cleared him on the charge. Several children are left to mourn their loss. Notify Administrator about this message?
