I'm responding to your message on the remote chance that we may be related. My grandfather, Sydney Coombes, was born at Moorlinch, Somerset, in 1853. His father was William Coombes, a laborer, who married a Sarah Emery. My grandfather had a career in the navy, retiring in N.Ireland. If the above rings any bells, I'll be glad to hear from you. It's unfortunate that Somerset has so many Coombeses that things can get complicated.
