Stephen. I am a direct decendant of Samuel Coombe listed in your message. I would be grateful if you would detail the further history you mention in your posting. In 1850 Samuel went to SA with little money and walked to Glen Osmond from Port Adelaide looking for a work the he had heard about. None there, but he gained employment with Mr. Duffy at Bowden at the brickworks. In 1851 he returned to the gold fields of Victoria with Mr. Rimes and Mr. Taylor leaving their wives at home. (Taylor is also part of my heritage)The struck it rich and returned after a year with around 400 pounds of gold. Mr Taylor purchased farmland in Virginia, Mr Coombes purchased a house in Bowden and then established a brickworks of his own at Hindmarsh and also at Brompton. He built a brick home at 39 Chief St. Brompton and the family were in residence until a few years ago. Mr Rimes ??? Samuel had at least 1 son with Mary Knights and I have the birth Certificate. Edward John COOMBE b. 11-11-1855. d. 24-10-1901 m1 ? ( Edgar Coombe ?? mother died in childbirth )M2? (similar result but no live offspring)M3 Harriet Adelaide KEEN b. 15-8-1864 d. 29-9-1931 m. 22-12-1887 had 7 children. I have all the data up to today for this lot from which I owe genes. Edward committed suicide at age 46 and was working at his father's brickworks and living in the family home at Bromton. Contact : holmanrob@better.net.au Notify Administrator about this message?
