This is what I have on “Sherman” Cooley, maybe “aka as Richard Sherman Cooley” in my database. Most of it comes from the Cooley Genealogy and the Cutler Genealogy. I have not verified much of the information but you can see where most of the info comes from in the endnotes of this listing.
The Cooley Genealogy, 1941 by Mortimer E. Cooley lists his name only as “Sherman”; however, the rest of the information about him seem to be otherwise factual. I assume this is the “Richard Sherman Cooley you are referring to in your query on the Cooley GenForum.

His house was two-storied, 18 x 24 in size; the barn was 34 x 40, with a basement stable.
In politics a Democrat, in religion a free thinker, Sherman Cooley was a man of repute in his places of residence. He held the office of Justice of the Peace in Trumbull Co., Ohio, and Grant Co., Wis. He served on the School Board in Wisconsin. On Oct. 4, 1880, he and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding in Lima, Grant Co., Wis. Among other guests (there were 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren) was Morgan Cooley7 (No. 392), Sherman's younger brother, who related the story of Sherman's wedding at the Granby meeting-house, and recalled how the bride and groom were dressed. "Sherman wore a swallow-tailed coat, and a bell-crowned plug hat; the bride wore a drabcolored silk dress, a white belt around the waist with a sash attached, and a deep ruffle around the neck, and a white silk headdress." The white belt, having turned golden in the fifty years since, was worn by Mrs. Diana (Day) Cooley at her Golden Wedding.

96. JOSIAH5 CUTLER (THADDEUS,4 JOHN,3 JOHN,2 JAMES,1) was born in Brookfield, Mass., September 1, 1761. He enlisted, at the early age of fourteen, in the American army in the war of the Revolution, and served under Col. John Murray in the Crown Point Expedition. He was promoted to the office of Sergeant. At his re-enlistment at the age of nineteen, his description is given as five feet three inches in height, light complexion. He was with his company at Springfield, July 5, 1780, and was probably then on his North River Expedition, being then a member of the 4th Worcester Regiment. He married November 25, 1784, Betsey Allen of Brookfield, removing to Marlboro, Vt., and later to Woodford. He was a farmer by occupation. He died at Detroit, Mich., June 1840. She died at Woodford, Vt., February 22, 1841, aged seventy-fiveyears, eleven months and twelve days.
