William M Cooley of Stewart co TN
I'm still looking for patrilineal descendants of this man. There is very good indication that he may have been a son of John Cooley of Stokes county NC. But I'm confident at this point that the only proof will be found in the DNA of his male Cooley descendants. Here's what I expect such a tester to match to:

Of course, a mismatch means that there is another explanation for his close association with the Cooleys of NC and KY. Perhaps, for instance, he had reason to adopt the name. The more I look at this, however, the less likely it seems. I really do expect a match.
