Jim,
Is your James actually Seaborn James Cooley, son of James Cooley (1758-1834) and Penelope Gargus (bef. 1775-1825). I also haven't been able to find Martha's maiden name. I noticed the Missouri connection as well, but have no explanation. My line comes from Seaborn James' older sister, Nancy, (1793-1845) who stayed on in Humphreys County, Tenn. James and Penelope had come to Dickson County from North Carolina and had moved on to Humphreys County. While some researches have added two different fathers to James' line, I am just now researching it and, at this point, can't find an absolute connection.
I'd love to explore this further with you.
Sandy Battin
