I still believe there may be a connection between your Cooley and the ones that I'm looking for, also that there may have been an "Allen" connection somewhere back in the line also. With Milton Allen Cooley, and Hollis Allen Cooley, it sure makes me go hmmmmm.
Cynthia Wofford married Westley M. Cooley. They had two children, Thomas and Doleska. They lived in Jackson Co. GA.Westley died sometime before 1842 when Cynthia Wofford Cooley married Hiram Allen. In 1850 Thomas and Doleska are living in Hiram's and Cynthia Allen's household, in Jackson County, GA.
I'm not home today so can't do exact dates.Thomas was born abt 1836 in SC.He married Mary ? who was born about 1845, as she is 15 on the 1860 Floyd Co. GA census, Barker's Dist. They have a 1 yr. old daughter, initals C. J. (or T) it is written over. They lived next door to his stepfather, Hiram and mother Cynthia Allen.
Meanwhile, Cynthia's daugther, Doleska has married her step brother, Isom B. Allen and they still live in Jackson Co. GA
By 1870, Hiram and Cynthia along with the children still at home have moved to Talladega Co. Al. where they will continue to live until they die.
I can find no Thomas Cooley, Mary Cooley, or C. J. Cooley on any census after 1860, that fits ages with this family.
Except for the Mary Cooley age 26 in 1870 living in Alfred Shorter's household, and which you have already informed me that she isn't the one I'm looking for.
All the Cooleys in Jackson Co. were listed as black on the 1870 census. As were the ones in Floyd Co. GA except for the Mary Cooley living in Alfred Shorter's household.
By the way, there is a Hollis Allen in AL that I am sure connects to my Allens.
