Cooley, SC to AL
I'm searching for information on Neva Belle Cooley, born 1883 in SC; married Thomas Matthew Carter in Alabama (probably Coosa or Calhoun Co.) c. 1903.She is listed on the 1910 census in Anniston, AL (Calhoun Co.) with her husband and children Kathleen, Thomas Jr., Mary Carol, and Martha Christine.According to the 1910 census, she was 27 years old, born in SC - no information is given on her parents' birthplaces. She is not listed with her husband's family on the 1900 census so was probably living with her parents at that time.
I have found many Cooleys who came from SC into the appropriate areas of AL (Coosa and Talladega Counties, especially), but most of them seem to have arrived well before 1880.If the 1900 census is correct and Neva was born in SC, her parents must not have arrived in AL until after 1883.
There is a family legend of Indian blood, and several of the men in the family definitely have Native American physical characteristics.
If anyone has any information on these Cooleys, I would appreciate it tremendously.
