NY, Looking for Grandpa's real family

The family story is that Phillip J. Campbell b. 11/15/1881, d. 12/18/1943 was adopted by Campbells', his real name was Coolbaugh. Aunt Mary said she an Uncle Clifford used to take Phillip to Savona, Steuben Co., NY, to visit 2 men he said were his brothers. We think they were Coolbaughs'.
In his Obituary it says brother Jason of Savona - is he Campbell or Coolbaugh?
