I am trying to get some information on William C. Cooksey, private in Caplain Company C. fourth regiment Kentucky Volunteers. Or his father Warren Cooksey. My reason for this search is to possibly get more information on my ancestor James Madison Walker who purchased land from Warren Cooksey in the name of his son William who was given the land for fighting in the Mexican War. The document I have states that James M. Walker purchased 160 acres in southern Illinois. He bought it on January 20, 1851. If we could ascertain where William Cooksey came from we may be able to connect him to James Madison. We know that James Madison was born in Tennessee. He died in Pope County, Illinois. His grave is there.
