Terry and Cooksey Researchers,Correction: John C. Cooksey is the son of Enoch Cooksey(my ggg-grandfather), as per Enoch's 1853 Warren Co, Tn.will. Also as per John C.'s brother Isaac Cooksey's 1903 Cedar Co., Mo. pension deposition, which outlines family members, and as per John's proximity to his brother Richmond Cooksey and neighboring sister, Mary Cobb, in Gonzales Co.Tx in the early 1850's. Richmond and Mary are also mentioned in Enoch's will as surviving children. John C. Cooksey is on the GONZALES county, TX. 1850 census, not MONTGOMERY CO, Tx. John C. is also in Lampasas Co, Tx. in 1860 and died there previous to 1868 as per land records surrounding his estate. The Montgomery County, Tx 1850 resident is Enoch Cooksey, son of Andrew, Jr. This Enoch moved from Tennessee first to Perry Co. Al, then to Lauderdale Co, Ms, then to Montgomery, Co. Tx. His son, Andrew J., is the progenitor of many Cooksey families in late 1800's Texas. I have considerable Gonzales Co. info on John C. Cooksey, mainly land and court records. He is married to Nancy Curtis Cottle in 1839, in Gonzales Co. Tx. Our family history "stories" indicate that John C.'s brother, Washington, was also in Texas, but no record has been found of him there. I am seeking any further info on any of this family in Texas. I have yet to contact any descendants of John C., Richmond, or Mary Cooksey Cobb. Mel Cooksey
