Laree and Cooksey researchers,

I will try to outline:

If you have good information connecting Zachariah Cooksey to Prince William Co, please let us know. This would be news to several people.

The John Cooksey of Shenandoah Co. came there from Fauquier in 1771, and his relation is not known to other Fauquier Cookseys. I have long suspected that this John may be Philip III's brother. Philip III never left Charles Co., Md. Philip IV is in Fauquier, and is younger.

Zachariah Cooksey first appears in Shenandoah Co, Va in 1786. Where was he before? Prince William Co? He was born 1757 in Md. and was a Revolutionary soldier.

This Shenandoah connection is closely related to the Cookseys of Greenville and Edgefield, Counties, SC, and later SMith/Warren/Wilson, Co Tn. A rather complex relationship, if interested, contact me privately. This is what we call "Philip's Line".

Shadrack's wife, probably his second, is Jemima, who married Robert Short in 1805 after Shadrack's death in Halifax Co Va. in 1801. I still need help on William Cooksey, Shadrack's brother, where did he wind up?

There is no room for either Obediah Cooksey in "Samuel's Line", as we now have that line traced completely, with public record documentation, with a couple of later period exceptions, through 1850+.

Cooksey researcher's should think of the terms "Samuel's Line" and "Philip's Line" as only as basis of family divisions, GIVEN OUR CURRENT LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING. This may change. We are quick to lump any Cooksey who is outside of the known "Samuel's Line" into "Philip's Line". Actually there is likely a couple or three fragmented Cooksey groups who may have been from other immigrant ancestors.
One case is in early 1700's Georgia. Another case may be Vincent Cooksey of old Prince William Co,VA. He seems to be a "black hole".
I feel that we will eventually tie him in to Philip's line by some type of secondary sources, but it will take some "dirty digging". Forget your books, neat indexes, and microfilm on this one!
