Myra, your listing of the Cookseys in Illinois was very interesting, particularly since their Illinois locations were in the same areas as the William Doughty family. After reading your message, I wrote to a descendant of William Doughty [brother to my Lorenzo, who married Sarah Cooksey]and received the following message from him: "Effingham county? I know Effingham Illinois is somewhat close to the area where the Doughty family lived. Was Effingham the town you are looking for? It's interesting seeing the name HOLLAND, the HOLLAND family lived next door I believe to my Grandfather and I always heard we were related." I think I mentioned earlier that William Doughty first went to Williamson Co after leaving Wilson Co. I suspect the "grandfather" mentioned above would have been William's grandson and it was this "grandson" identified above as living next door to a Holland family. I checked my map and the city/town of Effingham is located in Effingham County, Illinois. It does seem that this particular Cooksey family and the Doughty family remained within "hailing" distance of each other whether they could claim "kin" or not. Wonder whether the Cookseys, who went to Izard County, Arkansas, were members of this same family. Lorenzo and Sarah [Cooksey] Doughty left Tn and settled in Izard Co Ark in the late 1770's. Thanks again for your input. Notify Administrator about this message?
