There were cook(e)s who migrated from the area either directly or through Amelia Co. to the area now known as Frenklin Co. The co. map shows a Wm Cook as an early settler.The Mordecai Cooke you speak of is probably a descendant of Mordecai Cook of Gloucester Co., probably second or third generation. It is said that my line, John and his son, Benjamin, who settled in Franklin Co. in late 1750-early 60's descends from Mordecai Cooke.
