Why did John Cooke name a son John Lett Cooke ?
John Cooke who died in the early 1740s in Brunswick Co VA in his will named a son John Lett Cooke.
The John who wrote the will left a widow Diana, and is said to have had an earlier wife Elizabeth, whose maiden name is unknown.
Does anyone know why John named his son John Lett ?
Was it his own mother’s maiden name ?Or the maiden name of one of his wives ?
Any information, no matter how slight, would be very helpful and much appreciated.
