Joan Roper & William Cooke When & Where Married ?
Does anyone know when and where William Cooke married Joan Roper ?
Logic suggests they married in VA rather than Cooke traveling to England which he had left some 20 years earlier.
But that's just a guess.
But if they married in Virginia, how was it that the unmarried Joan was in Virginia without her father or an older brother ?
It seems to me that Hugh Roper must have visited Virginia, perhaps for an extended period, and when he left to return to England he left Joan behind.
It evidently is a settled fact that Hugh Roper died in England, together with his wife Elizabeth, both in 1661.
But if that is so why did Cooke wait until 1665 to make his demands on his share of Hugh's estate ?Had he just recently married Joan, or had he just recently heard of Hugh's death ?
It's my guess, just an opinion, that they married before 1661, and that he heard of Hugh's death probably in 1662, but had to make demands of the estate because some problem(s) arose that threatened to delay receiving his part of the estate.
Does anyone have any comments, information, etc on any of this ?
