This line of Cooks were apparently descendants of a Stephen Cook a son of a Nathaniel Cook of Boston or Philadelphia. Stephan was educated in England, apparently as a physician, and during the Rev. War returned home and fought on the Colonies side. He was captured by the British and sent to a prison in Bermuda, After he was released he remained in Bermuda for awhile and married a Catherine Esten there in 1782 and stayed there until about 1791, then they moved to Virginia. They had at least six children. They have descendants all over Virginia and other places. Several of them used the surname Esten as a middle name. I have more info in my notes, dates, names etc. if you would like the info I could e-mail it to you. Stephan died near Leesburg VA in 1816.
