Flora was a daughter of Colonel Phillip St George Cooke(1809-1895), USA. Her brother was John Rogers Cooke, General CSA.

Her father was a son of Dr Stephen Cooke(1751-1816) of "The Forest", Loudoun Co, VA & Catherine Esten(1765-1838). They were married in St George's, Bermuda, June 1782.

Dr Stephen was supposedly a son of Nathaniel Cooke (d1801) of New England.

An interesting tidbit, as conveyed by Col James E.B. Stuart,IV, USA-Retired:

JEB & Flora named their first son "Phillip StGeo Cooke Stuart". The WAR began, & the families were estranged. J.E.B. RENAMED the child as "James E.B. Stuart, Jr"[as the family called him: NOT JEB]!

The families, Cookes & Stuarts, remained estranged for many years after that War.
