My wife's great-grandfather according to records was George F. Cooke and was thought to have been born in Augusta Georgia and was from Augusta prior to the Civil War. He came to New Orleans and married Marah Reed born circa 1848 in New Orleans. According to published biography of Andrew Martin "Peter" Cooke in the 1930's after the his death in New Orleans, George F. Cooke commanded a regiment in the Civil War and was from Augusta Georgia. He was dead by 1890 since the City Directory of New Orleans list's Marah as a widow of Geo. F. Cooke. We are not sure of the regiment nor where the Cooke's originated. Marah Reed Cooke's parents were Joseph Willington Reed born in Boston and Clara Clarisse Faurie Reed.
