Great Jo,
Our family have had a question about this for a long time. We do not think he was related to our John Cooke, but our branch of Cookes followed the customary naming patterns, and John did have a son named William. I think half the population of the United States was named "John" during the 1700's this would not be conclusive.
Jo, please visit my web site at http://home.mpinet.net/wamays/main.htm select "Military" from the main page, then "Indian Wars", next "John Cooke" and you will find a lot of information about our John Cooke and links to other information about the Battle of Point Pleasant.
This battle was recognized by the US Senate in 1908 as being the first battle of the Revolution. John Cooke and William Cooke are listed on the monument erected on that site by the DAR.

I really hope we have discovered the mysterious William Cooke listed on that monument.

Please Email me direct at wamays@mpinet.net
