I have two Abraham Cook's. The elder one was born abt 1715, probably in Southamton, Long Island, NY. He married Sibyl Burnet in 1740, in Southampton, NY. He died in Hampton, Morris County, NJ. His son Stephen Cook born aft 1741, married 1st Sarah Havens, born 1753, 2nd married Phebe (widow of Amos Halsey). The son of Stephen Cook and Sarah Havens was also Abraham Cook, born Feb 3, 1775 in Southampton. NY,/or Parsippany, NJ who married Mary Lyon abt 1800 in Elizabethtown, NJ. He migrated into Greene County, Ohio abt 1818 with all of his children. Mary Lyon had died abt 1818 in NJ.

So far as I know none of them went to VA; they went about everywhere though.

I have another Cooke family in my lineage, Mary Cooke, the one that married James Backus in Athens, Greene County, NY. James Backus must have died by 1818 when she married Elijah Wells of Leeds, Greene County, NY. I do not know who her parents were. Sure wish I did! Some of the Backus family went to Ohio, but I do not know where her Backus people went or if they left NY.

You are right they all seem to use the same given names. It seems to me that when they became popular it caught on everywhere just about.

Best Wishes in your searching.
