Hi Sandra,
Ben Cook went to Berrien County and Henry went first to Washington and later Coffee County, GA.Ben's parents were John and Martha Cook of Wilkinson and later Baldwin County.William Jackson Cook was the son of Ben.
My great grandfather William H. Cook was a millwright and went up to Gordon County, GA to work where he met and married Sarah F. Allen in 1875.Four years later they in company with most of the Allen family left Georgia and went to Etowah County, Alabama. They later went to Birmingham which is where I was born almost 76 years ago.
I knew all of my grandmother's brothers and sister and they all knew Ben and Henry but only knew of George Cook. They did not know anything about the sister. In fact when I think back on the many conversations I had with them I don't believe they even knew he had a sister, they certainly never mentioned her name.I only discovered her many long years later when microfilm became available.
When the Yankee Army defeated our army at Atlanta they marched over to Milledgeville and did their dirty work there and Sherman issued an order that all young females were to be rounded up and sent north to Indiana and Ohio to work in the factories to support their war effort.I don't know if that is what happened to Cecelia Samantha Cook or if she latched onto the first man she could and left the area or the state??? Who knows.I really need help.
