I am trying to trace William Cook who married Esther Denont in 1790 in Guilford County, North Carolina. According to his Revolutionary War pension papers he was born January 17, 1760 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Evidence exists that he later lived in Surry County and Stokes County, North Carolina before moving about 1817 to Wayne County, Indiana where he died on March 22, 1844.
The problem is his parents. The most likely would be Abraham Cook and Phebe Mills but in checking other references for that couple, I see no Wiilliam listed as their child.
Upon arriving in Indiana, William is listed by the Bureau of Land Management as having bought land as the assignee of Isaac Jessop. While I am still tracing Isaac Jessop he would appear to be the brother of Jacob Jessop who married Rachel Cook, the daughter of Abraham and Phebe Mills Cook. It would appear to me that Rachel is either the sister of William or has another very close relationship.
William’s son Cornelius married Susannah “Sukey” Crim. Both the Crims and Abraham Cook’s ancestral families have close mutual ties.
Is William the son of Abraham and Phebe – or does anyone know whose son he is?
Thanks for any help.
