don't know if my Mahala Cook is the one your searching for...we are also a Missouri Cook family. Our Mahala was 15 years old in 1880 mo. census--father was John Cook, and mother was probably Laura. She was born in Arkansas. Haven't found if Laura is real or step mother...as Laura was 26 years younger than John--thought Laura could possibly be 2nd wife...John and Laura are both buried in MdDonald County Mo and one of their sons, Samuel, was my husbands Grandfather--Let me know if this helps...have more info
