Thank you for what you have found. I know that Gilson came from Biddy's dad who was named Gilson Hughes. I also found a Civil war listing for Alonzo Cook in Dade County GA which is fairly close to the area of Alabama where they lived. At first I thought maybe he came down for the War and stayed, but then why can I not find him on any censuses for 1860 or 1850. My aunt did tell me that he was from Indiana and that there were some Cooks still there from the same line. I hope to travel to Alabama on my next vacation and see if I can find out anything from relatives still living there.
