Memorial services for Owen Jackson Cook, age 72 of Atlanta, GA., will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA., 30305. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. with the Memorial Service starting at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Rev. Beth Sanders and Dr. Betsy Lunz officiating. Mr. Cook is survived by wife Malinda Miller Cook, sons, Scott Miller Cook (Sara), Owen Jackson Cook, Jr. (Monique), Andrew Morrissette Cook, granddaughters, Sara Carson Cook and Emily Chantel Cook, all of Atlanta; Mother, Mrs. Jesse J. Cook, brother, Talmadge Lee Cook (Ann) of Tennille, GA; brother in law, Edward Morrissette Miller (Eleanor) of Marietta.
Mr. Cook earned his undergraduate degree from Emory at Oxford and Emory University. At Emory-at-Oxford he was President of Student Body, received the Brittain Award and received his BA with Honors from Emory University in 1956. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. Upon graduation from Emory he entered the U.S. Navy, Lieutenant Cook served as a Torpedo and Gunnery Officer on the USS Sullivan Mediterranean (6th Fleet) from 1957-1959. After 4 years in the Navy Mr. Cook attended Law School at the University of Virginia where he served as Notes Editor for the Virginia Law Review, was a member of the Pi Delta Epsilon, Omicron Delta Kappa, the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity, and was a member of the Raven Society. Mr. Cook was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1963. He began practicing law in Atlanta with Arnall, Golden & Gregory and then Gambrell, Harlan, Russell. He then continued practicing law with the Brookins & Cook Law Firm and finished his legal career with Cook, Youngelson & Wiggins. Mr. Cook practiced law until his illness late last year. He was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. He was especially active in the New Covenant Sunday School Class and the Disciple Study Program.
