I have some very sketchy details on my ggg grandmother Esther Coogan. We believe she was born in Ireland (no place as yet). Married my ggg grandfather CHARLES QUIN(N) who was a private in the 39th Regiment of Foot (Dorsetshire) regiment. The regiment came to Australia in 1825. Esther and Charles had a son HENRY in Tasmania in 1825, a daughter MARY ANN in Sydney 1827,a son CHARLES WELLINGTON in 1829 in Wellington, NSW and possibly 2 others, names unknown at this stage. Private Charles Quinn died in April 1832, Esther remarried in July 1832 to a JAMES WOODLEY, bootmaker, (previously of the same regiment, who had purchased his discharge). I have some papers that suggest that Esther took up with a JOHN WALTERS, by 1835. She eventually married him in 1857. John Walters died in 1861, and I think Esther died in the 1880's. (I have found no deaths for Esther Walters but found a few for Esther Waters and am waiting for the certificates to confirm which one is her). I am finding it almost impossible to find Charles and Esther's original entry into Australia as privates in the army were not routinely listed on passenger records at the time.
If anyone can help me with any information or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
