Dale, the data I have suggests Arthur Coody was born ca 1742. I have a copy of a deposition he gave in 1763 while a private in the French and Indian War to the effect that Creek indians with poles with scalps on them chased him from noon on a Saturday until Sunday morning, when he came upon a band of Cherokees large enough to protect him. Arthur Coody and Edith Vann (purported to be a small part Cherokee, had nine children: Archibald (1/2 Indian, probably born "outside the blanket"), Nancy (1/2 Indian?), Lewis, James, Edward, Zephaniah (my ggggrandfather), ? a female married Pardue, ? a female married Frazer, and Joseph. Joseph married Jane Ross, either the daughter or sister of John Ross, a famous chief of the Cherokees. Joseph later became famous among the Cherokees in his own right, was on the trail of tears, wrote the agreement joining the eastern and western tribes of the Cherokees, and represented them in Washington.Zephaniah's son, Archibald, had Emily Virginia Coody, who married Francis Marion Logue; they had my grandmother, Mary Adelia Logue, who married James Bradley Cloud. One of the results was my father Albert Hadden Cloud, Sr. I am Albert (Al) Hadden Cloud, Jr. Zephanish married Mary Pace (we believe she was part Indian, as her gravestone has that name (therefore, not Pate) as well as an Indian name) in 1798 or 1799, settled in Mississippi (Yazoo Co), and had 13 or 14 children.
