Greetings-My research has led to the origin of Coody as being in Cornwall, original spelling there being Coode. Variant spellings appear to be Coodey, Coode, Cude, Caudy, Cody, Coda and etc... The name may have Latin links by being borrowed by the Gaelic speaking people. The name relates to Law or the wooden tablets documents were kept on, it is also a derogatory term in Latin. I feel than John Coode of Maryland who arrived from Cornwall in the 1670's is the first Coody in the New World. His father was a lawyer and I believe a Anglican Priest.
