Edith Vann, who married Indian trader Arthur Archibald Coody, was a white woman. One of her brothers (Joseph Vann) was the father of Cherokee Chief James Vann and another was Edward Vann.

The JOURNAL OF THE COURT OF ORDINARY, NINETY SIX DISTRICT (South Carolina) contains entries for Aug. 28, 1782 and April 21, 1783 for the estate of the late "Arthur Coodie", Edith Coodie of Horn's Creek, administrix and surity by Edward Vann (among others)

The Moravian journals at Spring Place mention that Zephaniah Coodey, a white man and cousin of Chief James Vann, placed 2 of his children in the Spring Place school (one was Peniah Coodey).
