A brief biography/family history of Daniel R. Conway, managing editor of the "Roundup Record" (MT),is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 992. Daniel was born, 27 Jun 1889, son of Thomas and Eva (Niblock) Conway. Thomas, a locomotive engineer, was born at Elmira, NY, and died in an accident, February 1892, age 31. Eva Niblock Conway, born Athens, Ontario, also died in February 1892, age 27. They had one child, Daniel R. Daniel R. Conway was only two years old when his parents died. His first work was as newsboy. He worked selling papers and doing janitor work to pay his way through Collegiate Institute at Athens, Ontario, and McGill University. His first newspaper job was as a reporter on the "Athenian", a weekly newspaper, where he worked for three years; then worked as a reporter for the "Union Gazette", Newark, NJ. Later he was with the Cleveland, OH, "Plaindealer", and then went to Iowa to work for the "Freeman Tribune" at Webster City. In 1914, he moved to Scobey, MT, and established the "Sentinal" newspaper, which he sold after two years. He went with the Scottsbluff (NE) "Star" until Jan 1919 when he returned to Roundup, MT. On 2 Aug 1913, Daniel married Helen A. Bryler, born Webster County, IA. Conway child: Evelyn. I am not related. Notify Administrator about this message?
