Carol Appreciate the response. Believe me, any information on this subject helps. I had found my information on a five-year-old archived inquiry. The inquiry stated that Eliza W. Porter was adopted by William Conway, was married to Thomas Hale and was a first cousin to Commodore David Porter, known for his exploits in the War of 1812. I have, in my possession, a letter written by my GGgrandfather Porter that also identifies his father, who was from PA, as a first cousin to the same Commodore David Porter. I figure, at the very least, that my GGGgrandfather Porter, whom I have yet to positively identify, is also a first cousin to Eliza W. Porter(Conway), and possibly her brother. I am curious, provided the information in that archived inquiry is correct, as to how these Porters came to be in Greene Co. and the circumstances surrounding the adoption of Eliza by William Conway. Is she (Elisa Hale) identified as adopted in William Conway's will? Re: Conways in the Civil War. There are some good websites that have rosters. I will Email you the links. I did a cursory check and found a Joseph E. Conway from TN that served in the Union Army. Couldn't find a Charles Conway but as I said it was a cursory check. Thanks again !
